Everything GREAT About X-Men!

6 258
Dark Phoenix isn't getting much love from critics, but as seems to be the case with X-Men movies, the audiences are feeling better about it. In honor of Fox's last run with the X-Men, here's everything right with the original X-Men! (2000)

I always thought of wolverine and rogues relationship as like a father and daughter. He cared about her as if she was his daughter, and she saw him as a father. And it felt like that throughout the movies at least to me.

The wacky thing about MX is that he was so controversial he even disagreed with himself.
After the Hajj he had a bit of a revelation.
Speaking of movies, there’s one that’s begging to be made - talking about Islam as a force for reconciliation and peace, changing the mind of a man who, well, he’s justifiably angry, but in the end even he realized he took it a bit too far.
Haley’s book is not the only thing to say about El-Shabazz, and a deeper dive into that moment would potentially make for great... crap, it’s Oscar bait.

If I remember correctly in the comics Mystique’s clothes shift with her body which never made sense to me unless it was part of her body. Like she’s making the clothes. So I was always fine with her being “naked”.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in you. The comparison between jews in nazi occupied Poland and the mutants in the US is not flawed by magnetos existence. It is never ok to judge a group based on the actions of an individual. Their fear is not legitimized by Magneto's actions. Rather their fear is misplaced because they are xenophobic. They dont have any reason to belive that mutants are any more likely to be evil than the average non mutant. Just as Nazi Germany had no reason to condemn all jews based on the (propagandized) actions of people like Herschel Grynszpan. Who's actions (like Magneto's) were as a result of the the actions of their oppressors.

I like that you touched on the xmen being mutants and mutants being discriminated in the marvel universe. However I want to point out that this was always an issue in the comics. Mutants are hated but the avengers are celebrated. So in the marvel universe, humans don't mind super powers, they take issue with mutants.

I wouldn't so much say Rogue was nerfed, so much as this is before that event (Though admittedly said event also just... never happens because of the reasons you say). I also *kinda* doubt that even when they remake the X-Men under Disney's banner that she'll have eaten Captain Marvel.

Hard to believe that it's now been 20 years since this came out.
I was 7 years old when I first saw this.
This movie fundamentally changed the game for the superhero movie genre.
Also, weird of you to bleep out Bryan Singer everytime you mentioned something.
I know he allegedly did what he did, but without him, the first two X-Men movies (along with Days of Future Past) would'nt be some of the greatest superhero films ever made.

turns 20 today!!!
Stinks i missed it in theaters. But did catch it later on tv and vhs.
Still impressed how Bryan singer managed to bring the spirit of the comics to life. Next to the mutants and their powers he keeps true to the core element of xenophobia, intolerance, prejudice, discrimination, and battling for mainstream acceptance into society. Completely fits into what’s our current social climate right now among different ethnicities, communities, and races.
My dad loved wolverine.

Not according to what X-Men: First Class told me. Because, you met Magneto when y'all were 24 years-old. Plus, he was hell-bent on killing Sebastian Shaw because he killed his mother and because he tortured him into becoming the monster that he is today. Also, you and Mystique were like adoptrd siblings. *FUUUUUUCCCK!!!* See what I mean when I kept saying that X-Men: First Class should have been a reboot instead of a soft prequel to the original trilogy....

Me and my buddies watched this movie the other night, and I have to say I am really surprised at how well it holds up. I'm not saying it doesn't have its less-than-stellar moments (the best compliment I can give them on that statue of liberty Wolverine thing was that it was ambitious and it didn't pay off well lol) but I definitely would say it was ahead of its time as far as comic book movies go. Still a great film

I think that killing Kelly was a bad move. At least in X-Men. X2 would've made more sense because Kelly had a change of heart in the 1st one. I say that doing the experiment on Gyrich would have been better and after that, have Kelly get saved by the X-Men. Make X2 about Kelly being killed by Striker to make him more menacing. Then have Striker go after the kids. Magneto could even use Kelly's murder to sway Pyro to join him.

12:26 to be fair, Magneto is in both groups, he is Jewish and a Mutant. (although an entirely fictional character to us, so your point stands). All in all, though, I think it's imperishable to remember Magneto is in the extreme of Mutant ability, with the vast majority of Mutants being no more harmful than a moderately able person, and both the government and Kelley aren't discussing how to deal with "people who can depopulate a city block with their brain power" but instead are discussing how to handle any and all Mutants. You can send a taskforce to hold Magneto accountable for his actions (among them the attempted and succeeded deaths of innocents in the eyes of the law), but when you measure every person in a group by the acts of the "worst" of them, you accept a very effective and dangerous form of bigotry.

Because some people have problems separating the artist (Bryan Singer, in this instance) and his alleged acts (I don't think he's been tried or convicted of anything as of yet, but I could be wrong) from the art, which tends to said people getting angry at the mere mention of the artist's name. Essentially, not everyone subscribes to Death of the Author, so he censored it to avoid triggering people.

Regarding Jubilee, I hope she gets a more developed role in the MCU.
I'd also want her to eventually become a vampire-like in the comics. I know a lot of people hated it, but in the hands of the right writers it was actually really amazing (see the Wolverine comics and her friendship with X-23 as both of them could connect over involuntarily having become a monster)
