In enough time, I can see join the ranks of the ranks of great cinematic composers: Barry; Williams; Morricone (who sadly passed away this year (2020), aged 91); Zimmer; Elfman, Horner (gone too soon ..); James Newton Howard; the all too underrated Vangelis ... You belong up there because of the subtle, yet powerful soundtrack for 'Alita', that, like the music that Vangelis scored for the orginal 'Bladerunner' movie of the 1980's, is a thumping score, whilst not being so much in your face ...

I have never seen the anime or manga version of anything. I am basically aware that they are Japanese art forms, but that's about it. That said, I really want to see this movie. I am not sure how one goes about that; I have no idea where one goes to even look for it. But because of videos like this one it makes the story of Alita seem like one I would enjoy.

This is still VERY much the best Live Action anime movie, for me. At least of those produced in the west. I'm sure Japan's managed to do them right, just because of the better understanding of the source due to being the culture that produced it. But yeah.

I didn't know it was a manga or anime, honestly it freaked me out how differently she looked but I got over it quickly. I am not one for overpowered heroes or even villains at times but she didn't feel so strong. She lost so much and now that I know its an adaption. This has to be the best adaptation of any anime or manga I've ever seen. Though I still have to give Rurouni Kenshin a similar spot light. She's grounded and has things to lose but I have to wonder how they'll still show weakness later.

YES FUCKING YES I JUST WATCHED THIS MOVIE AND I DIDN'T EXPECT TO CARE BUT I LOVED IT AND I LOVE YOUR VIDEO THANX!!! I'm not an anime fan but i'm a 90's anime fan because i watched anime back in the fansub days because i just outed my age. But present day, present time. I also gotta see Zalem, i hope my review encourages people (https://letterboxd.com/ynaq/film/alita-battle-angel/). Love the swastika joke, but minus points for not mentioning whitewashing though i've already convinced myself that whitewashing isn't an issue here so why mention it: swastika. I DIDN'T NOTICE THE HEIGHT THING thanks. Thanks for your videos, thanks for your channel, thanks! You convinced me critics are wrong about this flick lacking plot. And i hadda rewatch the one hand pushup flip eye gouge scene multiple times on first viewing, amoung others. You're not the only Jai Courtney fan, he's great in everything. Has Julia gone by any other names i might know, feel free not to answer if you don't wanna. Thank you! I took notes for this comment.

Never heard of Alita, never read an anime. Went to see the movie because I was intrigued by the trailer. Loved it! I think you're right. The main character works because of the actress who portrays it. Making you believe in her humanity. The whole movie was very well cast and that does make the difference. I expected at least two more movies from this world telling Alita's story. Sad to hear there's a chance there might be no sequel.

To answer your question, I am not a manga or anime fan. In fact I usually don’t watch movies and end up liking or disliking them because they are based on some book, comic or other. I watch and enjoy movies as each one is. 2019 was a year I hardly got to watch any movie due to some pre-occupations. I somehow forgot all about this movie after having seen the poster last year and missed the razzmatazz. So only last week did I chance upon Alita: Battle Angel and it turned out to be my movie discovery of a lifetime! Never has a movie been so compelling to make me re-watch it several times and all the trailers, interviews and some reviews (including this one), plus even to comment online about it here (prompted by many of your points which I agree with).
Some people watch movies for the special effects, some for the story, some for the character(s), some for the acting, some for the action sequences. Alita is to me a movie to watch for all the above. In terms of cyborg artistry, it is the best I’ve ever seen. As someone with a biomechanical background, I can appreciate the very plausible and aesthetic design too. Whenever I see my own hands, I think of the amazing design of her hands.
Alita goes one level up, with a special blend of good action, mind bending CGI, plus a lot of heart. It certainly was a most heartful performance; the story and Rosa’s portrayal of Alita was life changing. Reel life affects real life. There is no scene which is redundant. Perhaps most of all, it has the life giving quality of excellent real acting coupled with the most realistic CGI ever, to bring us beyond what can be physically shown.
I like how the ordinary can be so special. While the scenes play in my mind, I see more and more messages for daily life. Waking up to each day is new and I get out of bed more readily (despite the gloom in these times). A simple thing like eating fruit is re-inspiring. Even though we may be down, we won’t be out. We are not as insignificant as we may think we are. Thanksgiving for fathers who care. It is a joy to see my young daughter for who she is. Purity of heart. To be fully alive even if we are not whole. Human goodness will prevail, and so on….
After having enjoyed all the epic sagas, some notably from the classic books to comics, in the recent decades, we are left with a yearning for something more than temporal hard action and visual effects (very few movies have managed to do that well). To me, Alita is the next big movie series to be which can take us there, if all the stakeholders do not miss this opportunity.

You possibly missed the greatest win of all ...
There is a beauty YouTuber, who is a girl barely into her teens, that lost both her forearms to a particularly nasty strain of meningococcal meningitis, when she was very young. Inspired by the Beserker armour, and talking to a company that does cutting edge research on bionics for amputees, backed by James Cameron, they were able to gave her Beserker arms, and hands, that works on a degree of biofeedback, for free, along with an 'Access all Areas' ticket to the movie premier, where she was able to be photographed with Rosa on the red carpet ... and because she is growing, any further adjustments will probably be either free, or a fraction of the cost replacements would otherwise be ... and, from what I heard --- but could be wrong --- that same bionics company is taking those arms, and refining them to the point where they can easily be made at a fraction of the prototype costs, using a 3D printer. The only real costs is still the electronics, but, in enough time, those would be affordable too, with even the ability to have affordable, full biofeedback, to the peripheral nervous system being not that far off ...
Bloody amazing, if you ask me ...

There are no words big enough to describe how much I loved and enjoyed it. I’ve been praying for a second movie since it’s release. From the action to the relationships formed in this movie, everything kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t possibly look away. I watched it for the first time in theaters. I’ve watched it over three more times since then. I don’t know what’s not to like. I’m glad I could take a moment to comment on a masterpiece. ❤️
